When to Train

When to Train:

A majority of top bodybuilders seem to train either in the morning (between 8:00 A.M. and noon) or in the afternoon (between 3:00 and 6:00 P.M.) But you can find top men and women working out at literally every hour of the day and night. Let me introduce you to a few examples.

Tom Platz (Mr. Universe) is one of the most consistent morning trainers, getting into Gold’s or the World Gym about 9:00 A.M. each workout day. Lee Haney prefers to do the first half of his double-split routine at about the same time in the morning, then comes back for part two at about 3:30 or 4:00 P.M. And at the time Gold’s Gym owner Pete Grymkowski was winning the IFBB Mr. World title, he liked to train between midnight and 6:00 A.M. daily.

There is some scientific evidence that the average person is at a physical and mental peak at about 3:00 in the afternoon. And there is other evidence that your body tends to peak out physically and mentally for that time of the day at which you tend to train regularly.

My thought on the correct time of day to train is that you should work out consistently at about the same hour in order for your body to marshal all of its forces for a great training session. And you should pick that time of day when you can consistently workout without any interruptions. Other than that, let the chips fall where they may.
